With the installation of an indirect lighting system and a two-way amplification system, the total pavilion cost came to $80,000.

Starting in 1937 the 17-7-8 Community Association
undertook advance plans for a music pavilion. The
entire project was to cost $70,000 with a sponsors share
of $14,318. Thousands of individuals as well as
organizations, businesses, industries and schools
contributed to the fund.

October 26, 1937
Representatives appeared before City Council and
requested permission to have a music pavilion erected in
Roxbury Park.
December 6, 1937
The association authorized a committee to obtain the
necessary data for construction of an edifice in
Johnstown.
January 4, 1938
City authorities met with the 17-7-8 Community
Association and encouraged it to launch a campaign to
raise the sponsor's share of a pavilion project in
Johnstown.
May 16, 1938
Campaign was launched and the project plans were
placed in the hands of WPA officials several months
later.
December 1939 and March 1939
The plans were sent back for revision.
April 1939
Plans finally approved
May 14, 1939
Ground breaking ceremonies were held with over 3000
people in attendance. |
